The Clinical Pages
-
These pages represent largely the notes amassed during clinical training.
There is a fair amount of information here, but it is incomplete and patchy.
There is no logic to the choice of which material should be here - it is
a reflection of how well we understood the subject as we were being taught
it, and how much time we had to make coherent(ish) notes.
-
My intention is to maintain these pages, and to add information as I learn
it - again dependent on having the time to do so.
-
My interest would be maintained if I knew that anyone was looking at these
pages, whether or not they found them useful. I would be even more pleased
if anyone wished to submit either new pages or modifications of existing
ones - all submissions will be credited appropriately. I would also be
interested to receive suggestions for other sites that could usefuly be
linked in with this : some of these will be included in the near future
anyway.
-
The pages are designed primarily as an academic resource for clinical medical
students, and any comments on them will be very welcome.

Internet Security
-
I am not paranoid, nor am I involved in seditious or illegal transactions,
so why should I be concerned with security?
-
Email is not secure, and yet private details of my patients must be kept
confidential.
-
Transactions over the WWW are not secure, but I would like to be able to
send details and credit card numbers without the worry that they will be
intercepted.
-
If I'm not concerned about privacy, why do I seal my letters in an envelope?
-
Here is a persuasive article
by Phil Zimmerman, author of PGP - Pretty Good Privacy
-
So how do I ensure privacy in my internet transactions?
-
Easy - using Public Key Encryption
-
WWW security - visit www.thawte.com
and get a free personal certificate. And remember to check for secure
links before sending information over the 'Web.
-
Email security - visit www.pgpi.com
and fetch the version of PGP for your computer.
- Interface to the PGP Public Key server available here
- You may search for public keys, or submit your own keys from here.
Enquiries of a personal nature regarding the conditions described in
these pages should be made in person to a registered medical practitioner
as it is not possible to enter into an ethically sound doctor-patient relationship
over the Internet!
